Scripture: Joel 2:21-27; Mark 10:35-45
In today’s Gospel lesson, James and John – the sons of Zebedee, also known as the “Thunder Brothers,” are asking for special favors from Jesus. They want to be his top lieutenants, and follow him into his glory. The other disciples get mad at them for asking for this, but they don’t realize that the kind of glory that Jesus offers is different from what the world offers – it’s a glory that comes with suffering, and a success that looks like failure. Jesus calls us to find greatness through service and life through death.
