Isaiah tells us that the Lord of history is the God of surprises. ‘I am about to do a new thing’ (Isaiah 43:19) and ‘my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways. For as the heavens are higher that the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ (Isaiah 55:8-9)

My husband Vern and I downsized and were scheduled to move to a senior living facility on April 1, 2020. We were becoming new residents of the state of Virginia to be close to our children. We had just sold our house and then Covid 19 hit, the stock market fell, and our buyer backed out. What do we do? Our realtor said, “Banks are closed, realtors can’t show houses, etc.”

We trusted God. We had a new buyer within a day. Now our next news – our new senior living home was closed and in quarantine. They might not let us move in. We trusted God.

After a 156 mile drive from Pennsylvania, with eateries and bathrooms closed because of Covid, we were welcomed on a red carpet entrance to our new home April 1, 2020. God promises.

For the Lord, the God of Israel, says, “The jar of flour shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry until the day when the Lord sends rain upon the earth.” She left and did as Elijah had said. She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well; the jar of flour did not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, as the Lord had foretold through Elijah.
1 Kings 17:15-16

Christmas without family (in 2020) was soooo different. But again God delivered – to our surprise we received in the mail a box of weekly Advent activities and words of Hope from Haymarket Church. We enjoyed opening the packages each week and especially enjoyed the Danish Kalenderly candle.

Thank you Haymarket Church. As we look forward to a less restricted return to familiar Christmas traditions in 2021, we thank God for His faithfulness.
