Merry Christmas! Today we celebrate the Good News that Christ has been born, that God is with us, that the Light of the World has entered into our darkness.  However you celebrate today, may you know that God is with you – even in the mess, even in the chaos, even in the struggle.  In joy and difficulty, in good times and hard times, with full bellies and empty ones – in it all, God is with us!

So, for today’s devotional, we are just offering you two songs to help you celebrate.  The first is a classic Christmas carol, “O Come All Ye Faithful,”a song that has words rich in meaning that speak of the joy of Christmas (and what it means):

The second song is a song that’s been the theme song of the Johnson family for the last few weeks, “We Need A Little Christmas.”  We’ve discovered that we need more joy (it’s 2020 after all) and this song has helped us claim that joy and given us permission to start our Christmas festivities a little earlier than usual.  So, I hope it’s a gift to you as well:

May you find a little extra Christmas joy today, because we certainly need it this year.  And may you take time to wonder at the gift we have been given in Jesus Christ.  As it’s put in “O, Come, All Ye Faithful

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning,
Jesus to thee be all glory given.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing

Jesus is the Word of God, who has appeared to us – who has taken on human flesh to save us.  And so, this is a happy morning, because it’s the morning we celebrate that Good News.  May you find “a little Christmas” today, and may you give thanks for the Word Made Flesh, Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!
