General Conference Lunch & Learn

On Sunday, April 7, Haymarket Church will be hosting an information session after in-person worship to share about the United Methodist Church’s upcoming General Conference. Haymarket Church is a United Methodist Church, and every four years, several hundred United Methodist delegates from around the world gather for General Conference.  General Conference is the only body that has the authority to set policy for the worldwide United Methodist Church.  General Conference is meeting April 22-May 3 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The United Methodist Church has had several major global disagreements over recent years, and many people are hoping General Conference will help lead the denomination toward positive change. In particular, there are important conversations about LGBTQIA+ inclusion, the global structure of the church, and many other important issues.  At this session we will talk about what General Conference is (and what it isn’t), what it can do (and what it can’t do), what you might hear about it on the news, and how several members of Haymarket Church are involved in its work.  We will also do our best to answer any questions you might have.
