Scripture: Proverbs 19:17; Matthew 19:16-30
Of all the phrases we will cover in this series, this is probably the one we take the least seriously. What is so fascinating is the way Jesus prefaces his command. He says, “If you want to be complete…” It’s both ironic and beautiful that in our quest to have completion in our own lives, the way to find that is not through addition, but subtraction. What would it look like to commit to a more simplified life? In doing this, we might find ourselves in places of greater peace, and our community in places of having enough.
This Week: How does hearing Jesus say “sell everything” make you feel? How do you respond to this command?
Even if you can’t imagine “selling everything,” what practical steps can you take to live more simply and follow this command?
