Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:2-10; Mark 6:1-13
Jesus should have been a local celebrity. The people in his hometown should have been excited when Jesus, who had been making a name for himself, came back to preach to them. But, instead, they were hostile to his preaching. As Jesus sends out his disciples, he reminds them – and us – that following him isn’t the way to a “better life” (at least not in a traditional sense), nor is it a way to “climb the ladder.” His way leads to rejection – but it is also the only way that is worth living, because it is the only way that is true.
