Scripture: Psalm 130; Mark 3:20-35

In today’s Gospel lesson, everyone seems to be attacking – or at least misunderstanding – Jesus.  His family thinks he’s lost his mind, the religious elite say that he’s demon-possessed, his mother and brothers beg to see him, but he says his true family is the newly made family that God is creating around him.  Sometimes we forget how much Jesus – and his message – is a challenge to our settled arrangements.  Jesus doesn’t just come to comfort the afflicted – he also comes to afflict the comfortable.  And sometimes, when he does that, it makes him (and his followers) seem crazy.
