Scripture: Exodus 14:19-31; Mark 1:1-13
The season of Lent, a season of spiritual preparation leading up to Easter, is modeled on the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert at the beginning of his ministry, when he faced temptation and was forced to rely upon God completely. But more than a millennium before Jesus wandered in the wilderness, the people of Israel spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness, learning to trust God to care for them. Today, we’ll look at one of the classic moments from the beginning of the Exodus story and explore the parallels between this story of Israel and the story of Jesus – and see what those parallels have to say about our own lives.
