In-Person Worship at the Park

We will be gathering for in-person, socially distanced, outdoor worship at the Haymarket Town Park (14710 Washington St, Haymarket, VA 20169) once a month for October, November, and December.  Worship will be on October 18 at 5:30 PM, November 15 at 4:00 PM, and December 20 at 4:00 PM. (These gatherings are in addition to our Sunday morning worship livestream.) Face coverings and social distancing will be required, and all participants will be asked to certify that they have not had any symptoms of Covid-19 in the last two weeks by completing a simple health form. Worship will include music, prayer, Scripture reading, a brief message, and communion. Communion will be in the form of prepackaged individual servings (to maintain hygiene and reduce germ spread). If you’re not interested in in-person worship (and, that’s totally OK!) then, don’t worry, our Sunday morning livestream will still remain our first priority.

Health Acknowledgement Form

Health acknowledgement forms are required to attend outdoor worship. You can fill that out using the link below.  They must be completed sometime during the four days prior to the event. (Those who don’t fill it out prior to worship will have to provide answers to these 4 questions as they enter.)

Things to remember as you prepare for worship

Because we value your safety, we want to do everything we can to help make sure we keep you safe. Worship in the midst of a pandemic requires us to take some extra steps in order to make sure everyone is safe. And, as Christians, we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. And loving our neighbors well means doing everything we can to help keep them safe.

We want you to feel comfortable participating in this worship service, and we want everyone to be able to do so safely. So, please note these requirements for worship:

  • You must wear a face covering in order to participate. Masks must be kept on for the entire time worship is happening. This is a directive we have received from higher levels of the United Methodist Church, and it is designed to help ensure everyone is safe. Please note: cloth face-coverings are required. Plastic face-shields are not sufficient, as they do not sufficiently restrict the spread of respiratory droplets.
  • Social distancing is required between family units. You can sit together with your family, and you can talk to other folks, but please keep 6 feet between family groups at all times.
  • Bring your own seat (or blanket). Instead of us sanitizing a bunch of seats, we are asking everyone simply to bring their own. Think of it like a summer concert at Jiffy Lube Live, and you’re sitting in the lawn seats.
  • There is no bathroom at the park, so be ready to hold it. This one is pretty self-explanatory. We can’t offer bathroom facilities. Be ready for that.
  • Please don’t come if you’re sick. If you have tested positive for Covid-19, or have had symptoms of Covid-19 in the last two weeks, please stay home, for your safety and the safety of others. (More on this in the next bullet point.)
  • Everyone who is participating must fill out a health acknowledgement form. This is a simple acknowledgement that you are healthy and do not knowingly have any symptoms of (and have not tested positive for) Covid-19. This form includes leaving your contact info, so that if someone does test positive, we can communicate that to everyone who participates.
  • Please fill out that form before coming to worship. It takes just a couple of minutes, and you can fill it out here. Filling it out anytime between now and Sunday is great! (And, if you get sick between now and then, just don’t attend). Click here to fill out that form. If you don’t fill the form out in advance, we will also have copies for you to fill out in-person at worship.
  • There will be music performances by our music team, but singing by large groups has been linked to increased spread of the virus, so you are asked to listen but not sing along. Singing has been shown to increase the spread of airborne droplets and make the spread of Covid-19 more likely. The United Methodist Church in Virginia has mandated that congregational singing not happen at worship gatherings. This will probably feel weird, but it will be good to be together and hear worship music together anyway.
  • Park in the parking lot that is part of the park (near the playground) or in the parking lot of Haymarket Baptist Church (in the spots on the property line between the park and the Baptist Church).
  • In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule. If it’s raining, we won’t be able to meet. So, if rain comes, we will put out word and reschedule for another Sunday in a few weeks.
  • Pastor Brian is required to end the worship service if these rules aren’t followed. He says, “I know you guys are awesome, and that everyone will be doing what needs to be done to keep each other safe, but our Bishop has required pastors to end worship services if safety practices aren’t being followed. Just so you know.”
  • We are sponsoring a Food Drive as part of worship! The Haymarket Regional Food Pantry is running short on food, and we want to help. Bring a non-perishable food item to worship (think of it as your offering!) and we will make sure it gets to the Food Pantry to help folks who are in need!
