Trip-Specific Information
Travel Details
Please plan to be at the Town Hall Parking Lot (15000 Washington Street, Haymarket, VA 20169) by 6:45 AM Sunday, July 17. We want to be on the road by 7:15 and have lots of packing, organizing, and praying to do, please be on time! (We also need to get in and out before our Farmers Market friends start arriving and putting up their booths!).
Packing for the Trip
CCC Has provided a PACKING LIST. Be sure to pay attention to their work site attire–long pants and closed toed shoes. We are staying at a camp with water sports available, so students will want to have swim clothes if they plan to participate on our free afternoon.
Cell Phones
Haymarket Church Student Cell Phone Policy for Mission Trips
We would prefer NO PHONES for the entire week. We DO NOT allow phones during our time at camp. (All adults will have phones and students are welcome to call home as needed.)
Students may bring phones and will be allowed to use them on Sunday & Saturday (travel days). Phones must be turned in Sunday afternoon when we arrive at our lunch stop. Phones will be charged for students (if a charger has been provided) and returned to students on Saturday morning to take final photos and get contact information from new friends and to use during the travel home. Please note that these phones will be kept in a backpack, and secured in a warm van during the work day.
Spending Money
Students will be responsible for 2 fast-food meals on the way to/from North Carolina. (Sunday lunch, Saturday lunch). Students should bring enough spending money to cover those meals. (Kim is happy to hold the ‘travel home’ money if that is helpful to your student for budgeting purposes.) Occasionally, work teams will stop for an ice cream or a treat on the way back from worksites, so having a few extra dollars for that is helpful but not required. There is also a camp store at our location.
Schedule
Find a tentative trip schedule from CCC here.
A CCC Home Repair trip gives youth and adults the spiritual renewal of a camp experience and the life-changing opportunities of a weeklong mission trip. While the work is challenging, CCC makes it easy for your group to worship, serve, and grow. We provide the location, training, tools, supplies, and connection to needy families. You and your students give the hands, heart, and soul of Christlike service. During a week in the summer, your group will perform various home repairs for the unemployed, the disabled, the elderly, or single parents and have an amazing time sharing God’s love! A typical week at CCC includes serving 2-3 different families through the following types of projects:
- Building wheelchair ramps, porches, and steps
- Yardwork, mowing, weed eating, and raking
- Painting inside and outside of homes
- House cleaning, window washing, and more
Building Hope. In addition to helping with physical needs, we strive to meet the spiritual, emotional, and social needs of the residents we meet. You are encouraged to pray with the families you serve, have lunch with them, and share the love of Christ. CCC is also about helping students. We want students to be empowered to do and lead, to experience acceptance, laughter, spiritual growth, community, and impactful worship. We are serious about service AND serious about having fun and growing spiritually during your week of camp with us!
